While doing some brief research on the 1920's i came across some interesting facts. One of the facts was that in 1999 laws were passed for the Prohibition of consumption and even possession of alcohol making them illegal and due to this law in 1920 people started to open up illegal bars serving the illegal beverages. Also this period saw the growth of the Ku Klux Klan who took law into there own hands and lynched many victims. The 1920's was also the birth of commercial radio for all. The music of popular choice was jazz. At the end of 1920 there was the the great depression , in alll areas the stock market crashed. These are five facts i found while doing research on the 1920's.

My first fact is there were 106,521,537 people in the United States. There was 2,132,000 unemployed,(Unemployment 5.2%). The Life expectancy: Male 53.6, Female 54.6. There was 343.000 in military (down from 1,172,601 in 1919). The Average annual earnings was $1236; a Teacher's salary was $970. The Illiteracy rate reached a new low of 6% of the population. The Gangland crime included murder, swindles, and racketeering. Also It took 13 days to reach California from New York There were 387,000 miles of paved road. Fashion can be considered a political statement. And the fashions of the 1920's set the trend for things to come. Usually they are referring to the most stunning woman at the show. And of course, the celebrity is wearing a gorgeous 20's inspired dress! The Palmer raids, the Red Scare, a drive to rid the country of "reds," begin under the auspices of the U.S. Dept. of Justice. On January 3, the New York Times reports that 650 are arrested.
Due the new technology available allowing movies to have both sound and color the movie industry in Hollywood grew fast as did the number of Cinemas showing the films. In 1919 laws were passed for the Prohibition of consumption and even possession of alcohol making them illegal and due to these laws the 20's provided some of the most well known gangsters a means to create vast wealth by opening illegal bars called speak easiest to provide drinks for the people that required alcoholic beverages. Most radio historians asert that radio broadcasting began in 1920 with the historic broadcast of KDKA.

    "The Roaring 1920's"
Music in the 1920's basically consisted of Jazz, Ragtime, and Broadway musicals. Jazz began to change and became more popular especially because of the radio and phonograph records. Also alot of musicals begin to start coming out rapidly. Plus in the 1920's Movies were dominated by silent movies but saw the introduction to synchronized sound. Back then Military Forces were in the midst of World War 1. It was suppose to be the "war to end all wars" but tensions still remained. And the introduction of refridgerators enabled heathier and longer storage of perishable foods. Plus womens fashion was influenced by the mode of transportation, and the architecture of that period of time.

The 1920s was a time of prosperity, but also a time of many downfalls. It was an era of change . . . a time when people began to do what they wanted to do instead of following social norms. The U.S. prospered as Henry Ford developed the automobile assembly line, as the nation had its first ever TV broadcast in New York, and as mail was delivered via airplanes. Women fought for the right to vote and changed the rules of fashion. Prohibition made it illegal to drink alcohol, creating organized crime with Al Capone leading the way. Warren Harding's administration participated in the Teapot Dome Scandal, but Harding's death left Calvin Coolidge to deal with the aftermath. Babe Ruth and the Yankees ruled the arena of Baseball. The first ever sports broadcast was delivered during a Jack Dempsey fight. Charles Lindbergh got the name "Lucky Lindy" and became a national hero. Americans feared a Communist takeover, especially A. Mitchell Palmer who sent suspected Communists back to the Soviet Union on what was deemed "The Soviet Ark." Italian immigrants, Sacco and Vanzetti, were executed in one of the biggest trial of the Twenties. W.E.B. DuBois, Marcus Garvey, and Langston Hughes led the Harlem Renaissance period. Garvey spoke of his ideas for Black Nationalism while DuBois and Hughes became leading writers of the black movement. The Ku Klux Klan began their prejudice spree, preaching white supremacy. Clarence Darrow prosecuted John Scopes during the "Monkey Trial," after Scopes admitted to disobeying the Butler Act by teaching evolution. In this decade following the First World War, America prospered as the leading nation of the world. It is clear to anyone that the memories of the Roaring Twenties are still vivid as we prepare to enter the 21st Century.

Well 3the fashion in the in 1920s was soooo different then now. Some people would say it is weird and some people would see that its cool. Younge women's fashion of the 1920s was both a trend and a social statement, a breakin off from the victorin way of life. These young, rebelliouse, middle class women, labled 'flappers'. They wore corset and donned slinky knee length dresses, which exposed their legs and arms.

The 1920s is often seen as a period of American prosperity and optimism. It was called Roaring Twenties. It is often seen as a period of great advance as the united stats became urban and commercial. That time is also seen as a period of rising intolerance and isolation: chastened by the First World War, historians often point out that Americans retreated into a provincialism evidenced by the rise of the Ku Klux Klan. That was the time where a lot of things we know now first started like jazz music and more. So I think that this period of time is a imported time for the united stats.
