Consider Douglass' juxtaposition of the children's hunger next to the description of the "unpardonable offense" of teaching slaves to read in this "Christian country." How does the hypocrisy inherent in slavery bleed over in other aspects of daily life?

The hypocrisy inherent in slavery bleeds over in other aspects of daily life, by stating that a slave is inferior to the inferior race in everything such as knowledge, reaction towards certain situations, and value in the world's view.
The hypocrisy inherent in slavery bleeds over in other aspects of daily life because the slaves were treated so terrible, that nothing else could possibly go beyond that. Douglass feels that they at least deserve the right to a decent education and have a sense of hope. Slavery has always bled over any other aspect of life because the African-Americans didn't ask to be taken under someone else's care and treated like a worthless piece of trash flying down the highway. Slavery is a very sad position to be in because they were beaten, worked all day and night, and they never could feel fully secure. In other words, slavery is a known topic in present society. In addition, it will always have an everlasting affect on our daily lives today and forever.
ReplyDeletethe people do not teach the slaves to read because it would embarass them for anyone to know that they taught them. this is why frederick had to give the little white boys bread to teach him. The people just didnt care about the slaves education. they just moved on with their lives and didnt pay any attention to it.

The hypocrisy inherent in slavery bleed over in other aspects of daily life in many ways. One way would be education because the slaves didnt have the resourses to learn, they weren't allowed to go to school. Also, Frederick Douglas learned from the white kids on his street that knew how to read and got an education. The childrens hunger has to do with Douglas's desire to be able to read or write, he always gave the white kids on his street something to eat for teaching him something. Frederick Douglas got over those obstacles of slavery to learn.
The hypocrisy inherent in slavery bleeds over in other aspects of daily life, by sharing that slaves don't have a right to be educated/knowledgeable and that they are inferior. I personally feel eveyone should have the equal right to be educated.Even though Frederick Douglas had many obstacles in his way he would find a way to learn. Such as bringing bread to the less fortunate boys and in return they would teach him how to read. Just as Mr.Auld had previously said that if a slave becomes educated and literate they then will become useless and will feel the need to escape. As Mr.Douglas became educated his determination to become free grew stronger.

ReplyDeletethe hypocrisy inherent in slavery bleed into aspects of daily life is because some didn't know how to read and write which made them different.
the hyprocrisy inherent in slavery bleeds over in daily aspects because of the way they were treated , they werent allowed to learn because white people didnt want them smarter than themselves but in the fredrick douglas book he goes out for an education . being, that slaves occured its always going to remain in history because some people still see it in society today because of the way some people our treated. just people werent treated even remotly fair and it showes threw out the book .

i believe he is making a sarcastic comparison. The little white boys are hungry but its in no comparison of what the slaves had to face. Most of the white people would be embarassed or ashamed to teach a slave because they believed it was the "unpardonable offense"> Frederick was a very determined man so he fed the white children to get their knowledge and they didn't say no because their hunger took over.

The hypocrisy of slavery bleeds into eeveryday life because with an act as horrible as slavery, it is near impossible for society to remain unaffected. The fact that children, who are not slaves, could be punished for teaching another child, who is a slave, to read, is very hypocritical for the "Christian Country."

ReplyDeleteThe hypocrisy inherent in slavery bleeds over in other aspects of daily life because the slaves were obviously always treated worse than others. Therefore, they couldn't have as many privileges as other people. Also, since they were a different color they were stereotypically assumed of not being as intelligent.

The hypocrisy is how the slaves are meant to stay in the dark. I have realized that not letting the slaves read kept them ignorant. It kept them from intelligence and from developing more knowledge then the masters. The thought of slaves taking over scared them so they ofcourse had to keep them in the dark for things not to change.

The hypocrisy inherent in slavery bleed over in other aspects of daily life by stating that slaves will never use the lessons that are taught even if they were to learn to read. They felt that slaves' education was not important and they didn't not care at all about it. To them, slaves were inferior to the whites and they felt that the education (of anything outside of slaving) was useless

The hypocrisy inherent in slavery bleeds over in other aspects of daily life, because most slaves were treated with nothing but disrespect. Like alot of people still today. They were not allowed to learn anything, such as reading for example. Where as man like Douglass thought to be completly unfair. To teach a slave to read was looked down upon in the society at that time. Making so that no one wanted to teach them and so the slaves would never be able to go further in life, then to be a slave. They had to do nothing but work and most the time be beaten while doing so. Being treated with nothing but disrespect!

The hypocrisy inherent in slavery bleed over in other aspects of daily life by how badly they were treated. They deserve the right to a good education. But the white man says "they will rebel" so they basically wont give them one because there scared of what they would do. The way they treated them also showed this, they made them work in terrible conditions and all the time no matter what, they beat them non stop underfed them and had no respect for them. It is sad how bad they treated these pleople. taking them away from there country then forcing them to work there life away.

Because the act of slavery is horrible, and thwe fact that he had to go to childern and offer food for an unpardonable offense is terrible. shows how people actually took in slavery as a serious matter. he would rather starve then not be taught what he wanted.

The hypocrisy inherent in slavery bleeds over in other aspects of daily life because the slaves were obviously always treated worse than others. They were inferior to the whites. To everyone but slaves themselves, selves were useless(except for their work).

The hyposrisy in slavery bleeds over into everyday life because the slaves were seen as a species less than human and were viewed like dogs. For example the slave would have to be kept physically strong but mentally weak. Also anyone who educated a slave would be delt with in the worst way along with the slave. So how can someone claim a faith that they don't practice.

the hyprocrisy inherent in slavery bleeds over in daily aspects because of the way they were treated , slaves werent allowed to learn because the slave owners i think didnt want them smarter than themselves but in the novel douglas goes for an education also slaves is inferior to the the whites and slave owners race in everything such as knowledge, reaction towards certain situations, and value in the world's view. so i agree with my fellow classmates on this topic.

The hypocrisy inherent in slavery bleeds over in other aspects of daily life by the way they were being mistreated such as not getting an education and left hungry.

It was hypocritical because the slaves that were not getting an education were getting food to eat, not much but still getting food. Then the people that were getting an education were starving and werent getting alot of food. so it was kind of a reverse in how society was supposed to be.

The hypocrisy inherent in slavery bleeds over into everyday life because of how bad the slaves were treated. Douglas felt that he should have an education, in with believing that he traded food for education with the white boys. Back then, it was horrible that a slave be able to read or write because slaveowners would then be worried about the slaves knowing what was going on and they thought they would rebel. Which if I were a slave and I knew what was going on around me I would try to get free.
The hypocrisy inherent in slavery bleed over in other aspects of daily life because of how things like teaching a slave how to read or write is handled. Having some one who wants to teach a slave to write an read would end up with them and the slave being punished.

The hyposrisy inherent in slavery bleeds over everyday life because slaves were treated horribly. they had no rights what so ever. They werent even aloud to have an education like the white people and they were beaten so cruely for getting into trouble but also for fun. If they cant be taught to read or have an education at all how are people there considered christians i don't consider them christians. They use contexts from the bible to put in their own perspective to make it seem like what they are doing is right and christian like but in all reality it ISN'T

The hypocrisy was that the young white boys were hungry and to get food they taught a slave child to read. Even though they were only making a means to an ends it still would have been viewed as "unpardonable offense" because the fact is they are teaching a slave child to read , which is wrong according to the "Christians" of the towns.
In the passage, the hypocrisy is that while their own kind is starving, they're busy worrying about the slaves learning to read. And that slaves who are treated cruelly and beaten have more bread than the white children who are supposedly the"superior" race.

The hypocrisy inherent in slavery bleed over in other asoects of daily life by how the slaves were treated by the owners. Every called themselves christian yet they didnt let the slaves learn to read or write. They made them suffer in bad weather and made them work constantly. They wiped and beat the slaves and yet still continued to call themselves Christian. How on earth is a person Christian when they do the bad and negative things they did to the slaves? The slaves as well called themselves Christian and were more true to it. They werent mean and rude like the owners had been to them, insted they prayed and hoped that one day God would help them get through the hard times.
