This year our AP classes will form study groups that will meet in and outside of school to offer collegial conversations and support for your AP Lang experience. We need to have solid guidelines for our groups to function at a level of excellence.
What guidelines should our study groups follow to become successful? Remember to consider group (n)etiquette, meeting times, accountability, time management, etc.
We will compile a formal list of guidelines based on your input and mine.
Feel free to respond more than once if you have a comment or question?

ReplyDeleteA successsful study group must be respectful and always on topic. They must learn to communicate with group members. They must learn to manage time by separating different assignments by the amount of time they have to complete it. The members must be diligent and reponsible workers and they must be able to share their ideas, questions and comments with other groups and classmates. All group members must be willing to attend and be puntual to all meetings. Whether they be during or after school. The group must also "hold their own" meaning that they don't rely on others to complete and do all of the work for them.

ReplyDeletePersonally, the guidelines I think our study groups should follow to be successful are:
1. Be respectful of other peoples opinions.
2. Share the work. Dont make one person do everything.
3. Get everyones numbers, email, etc. and communicate.
4. Dont argue with anyone, or dont be distractive.
5. Encourage your group members and keep everyone on topic.
I think the guidlines should be, to meet up at least twice a week. Also to be open to each others opinions and do whatever it takes to help each other out. I think other guidlines should be that every team member puts in the same amount of effort because you cant succeed in a group when it's only you doing the work or putting in the effort.

Guidelines?
I don't have much to say except everyone in the group pull there own weight. Especially if there is a project and one person ends up doing it.
Plus if someone in the group doesn't show up and you have to cover for them on a project is not cool. Because that whole "one person screws up everyone has to suffer" that's bull... so the group should have some kind of chance to cover that and confront said missing member or somthing under that term.
Well thats about it really 'cause that's the only problem I've ever encountred in groups before.

ReplyDeleteI think our guidelines should include atleast a 2 day a week goup secison outside of the class room. With all the right materials. We should dicuss the topic related to the classes dicussion and work. We should bring seperate question to our study groups and colaborate when together. The time should be set around everyones schedual yet there must be time made for this group secion. No phones, Ipods or electronic devices should be used as we are in secion, it should be treated just like a class room environment. I think we should report back to mr. Schneider with what we have done and accoplished throught these group secions. Each member in the group should have a set task that they will bring to our group. If no participation has been done by the group members they should be reported to the instucter and taken out of the goup. These guidlines seen fair on my behalf. I think my group would follow them and do well as they did.
-Kasey (:
-Group members should be those who live close to one another.
ReplyDelete-Should not be based on friendship, but on how well you will work together.
-Group members should be able to pick up where you are weak. (vice versus)
-Group members should be loyal, responsible, and accountable for during their share of work.

I think the guidelines for study groups should be where we are able to trust people and to be open with them. Time management and meeting after school is kind of hard for people. I have to stay after school but I know it will be difficult for all of the other people in my group to stay after school. I also don't like if one person doesn't do the work for the group or if someone is absent the whole group suffers from it and gets a bad grade from it. But I like working in groups and getting other peoples opinion and input.

A guideline that we should follow is respecting other peoples opinions in the group. Because, nobody will open up and share ideas if thy get critisized. Also for people being able to rely on you. And time management, you cant get off track when your talking about a certain subject. Because you wont get anywork done.
The guidelines a group should follow are, attending every meeting on time. During the meeting, cellphones, ipods, mp3 players and other distractions shouldn't be visible, unless there is an emergency or your parent is trying to contact you. The group should meet at least twice a week, and if you can't attend let group members know so arrangements can be made. You are responsible for your task. if you have questions, comments, or concerns, let the other know. If any conflict occurs within the group, the instructor should be informed, in this case, Mr. Schneider. Finally, have fun and be open minded to others opinions! :) KKD ***Class of 2012 AYYE***

The guidlines in which we should use for our study groups to be successful. Is that we need to make sure everyone is accountable for the study , those who are not have the chance to receive the information that the missed.During the study group we need to mange our time , so that all personal will be able to not be late for any inportant eveents. These are the things we should use in our study groups , for them to be succcessful.
For the groups to work I think first and foremost veryone should want to put forth the effort to make them work. Everyone's input should be taken into consideration and thee opinions should be respected. As far a meeting times go I think they should be set on times and dates where everyone knows their available and things wont interfere.

The groups should respect all members. They should meet whenever is convenient for all members. Everyone should be held accountable for all their actions and work. Time should be spent in a responsible way. Each member should come prepaired for the study group.

Let me start by stating that a group must fist be able to work together meaning that people who dont get along should not be working with eachother because confrontation causes distractions. Secondly all group members should treat each other with up most respect, meanig when someone is talk your not. As for meeting time we should honor each others time by meeting on days we can all make and being there on time. As a group member your group should be able to depend on you to do your part. As for time management we should spend as much time as needed to finish each assignment and fully complete each assignment to the best of your groups abilities.

The guidelines that study groups should follow to become successful include:
1. Being respectful to all of your peers.
2. Consider everyone's opinions.
3. Work together as a group/ include everyone.
4. If one of our group members is absent they should let us know ahead of time, so we have all of our work together.
Hopefully we will follow these guidelines and do well as a group.

For our studying groups to be successful we will all have to devote ourself to studying. We will have to put some things aside and really focus on what needs to be done. We have to be able to communicate with each other and feel comfortable around each other. We will have to all agree on meeting times and places. Basically we will have to take studying seriously.

I want people to have respect for each other. They should follow appropriate rules to keep their own safety. Get to know each other well and be willing to help each other out with school and any other problems that may need someones assistance. Other than that do what is right. GO CLASS OF 2012!!!!!!!

While we're in study groups we should be respectful to others and ourselves. We should allow others to voice there opinions and what not. We shouldn't argue with others.

For study groups I think we should make sure everyone is in attendance regularyly. Every group member should be reliable and acknowledge that they effect the whole group with their actions. Their would have to be an agreed punishment or consequence for unexcuse absences from the meetings.
Kaitlyn Highsmith 7B
ReplyDeleteTo be succesful in study groups we need set guidelines inforced not only by the teacher, but also by our peers.I feel students should not have outside conversations because that causes distractions. Students should remain mature and also keep their voices on a appropriate level. Opinions should be respectful and postive. Groups should come up with a meeting time that meets their needs. Time should be used wisely. Most importantly students should not cheat off eachother, rather they should help their study group to learn & understand the concepts. :)

Guildlines:
1) make sure everyone has a say in the community
2) if a group member is going to be absent they should tell someone ahead of time or if they cannot make the meet
3) everyone should work together and not just have one person doing all the work while the others sit around and watch/play
4) a team captain should be appointed but must always or be the most present to all the meetings
5) everyone should have one anothers contact information and agree upon a day and place that everyone can meet at

In a study group we should beable to learn about different ways to be successful in life, and how english literature will apply to us in the future. we should also learn how to become better organizers, listeners, respectful to others, and learn how to not forget things easily.

My name is Devon Hitch. 7B. My choice of learning is group work. I like to interact with people, I'm a people person. Groups are always fun, so that means I'll remember whatever I learn. I believe that we should talk about the different ways to be successful in life, also how the class will benefit us in the future. I appreciate you considering my interests in learning. Thank you so much.

ReplyDeleteThe guidelines a group should follow are, respect what everyone has to say and listen to what everyone has to say. Divide the work evenly throughout the group. If you don't want to give out numbers, set for a place to meet before and after school or lunch if they share the same one. Keep each other on task when you are together, so that means no music, texting or going off topic.

Well for class if we just be respectful and act like they want to learn like for instance the stopping of all sidebars that happen oh so frequently in class. This would greatly improve the over all learning compasity so that we can learn and be able to pass the AP test at the end of the year.
To have a study group that gets everything done well and on time, everyone should :
ReplyDeleteHave an open mind, listen, and respect each other's thoughts and opinions.
Work together, don't just dump all the work on the smart kid.
Stay focused on the assignment at hand.
Have each other's contact info for any work that needs to be done outside school.
